Cirip.ro Tutorial

Cirip.ro is a microblogging platform specially design for education and business, launched on the 17th of March 2008.

Existing facilities:

  • configuring profile:
    • Settings:
      • microblogging type
      • e-mail address, password,sex, language ro/en,site/blog address,description, picture
    • Design:
      • personalize the layout of your microblog
    • Notifications:
      • users can select to receive notifications through e-mail, IM or SMS: through e-mail you will receive a daily digest with the messages written by the people you follow and the answers received; through IM / SMS notifications are sent individually, in real-time; for every user / feed/ group followed you will have to specificy through which method you would like to receive notifications.
      • Twitter account- if you want your messages to be sent simultaneously to your twitter account and if you want your twitter messages to be shown also on Cirip
      • FriendFeed account -for showing your activity on on other networks
      • mobile phone number - which will remain confidential and which will be supplied by users who wish to receive SMS notification(only for Vodafone, Orange and Cosmote)
      • period of time in which users want to receive SMS notifications
  • each user can create a microblog by writing 140 character messages; afterwards messages can be edited or deleted
  • messages can be seen or written online through SMS / IM /firefox extension CiripFox / Twitter account / from RSS; Correspondingly under each message the source is written(web / mobile / ciripfox / twitter2cirip /rss2cirip; information about receiving / sending through SMS
  • multimedia can be embedded in messages ( images, audio streams, video streams ) - they can be seen at the Multimedia section of every blog
  • you can post a message under the form of a live video recording.
  • it is also possible to answer to other users messages or send a direct message through messages that contain ( don't forget to leave a space after )

  • for every microblog/group an RSS is generated
  • each microblog has a network section: 
    • followed users are displayed - if the two users follow each other the line is drawn with blue, otherwise it is drawn with grey; the last message of each user is displayed along with the number of messages between the current one and the central one;
    • followed groups - the line is drawn with red. The last message posted in the group is displayed along with the total number of messages posted by the central user in the current group
  • personal/followed/group notes can be included on the blog / site as a widget created in the Nest
  • a user may follow the messages of other users - thus becoming Followed Users, this my be accomplished by clicking the Follow button at the desired user's profile; Following a user may be cancelled at any time; the followed users' messages appear on the Home page after logging in
  • a user can monitor RSS feeds- the RSS address is mentioned at Follow Feed; an RSS may derive from:
    • a blog / site
    • a search feed ( eg. ) 
    • RSS for weather forecast or for earthquakes 
    • RSS for currency exchange
    • RSS of announcements from an online course one may be participating in
    • RSS of a social network's activities
    • RSS regarding personal e-mail, etc.
  • through e-mail a user receives daily new messages written by the users he/she follows, new items from monitored feeds, messages from participating groups; also, lists with the new users who have started to follow the e-mail recepient and a list with the direct messages; at Nest / Settings the options for the daily notifications can be set; for every user / feed / followed group it may be specified wether or not to be included in the daily notification e-mail
  • search messages using a search feed - on every page:
    • in all public messages
    • in personal messages
    • in accounts/feeds/current groups or
    • in followed feeds / groups
  • search users after different criteria at Users:
    • name
    • location
    • domain
  • search groups after criteria - at Groups:
    • name
    • moderator
    • type
  • specific followed users / groups of any user can be viewed graphically, group members at User/group Browser
  • public or private groups can be opened ( messages ar visible to everyone or only to members respectively ); the moderator can edit the Announcements page of the group; any new member must be accepted by the group moderator; posting a message inside a group can be done by selecting the desired group followed by Post or by including in the note:

  • each group has a section called network with all the members and the number of messages written
  • at Tops users, feeds and groups appear order by different criteria; when the mouse is over a certain user/group/feed you can see their position in the other tops
  • messages are also put on Google Maps at Map - messages from twitter users are also shown, to offer the possibilty to see the density and subjects discussed
  • friends can be invited through e-mail. In Nest at Invite friends you can invite your friends
  • look at bookmarklet/ buton Cirip.ro
  • An API has been created; new functions will be added shortly; see existing mashups.

Facilities in development:

  • improving the english interface; possible french version
  • organising messages through tags; messages will be found by their theme and through their coresponding search feed: For example cirip.ro/tag/jurnalism or cirip.ro/tag/conference+education;
  • Adobe AIR aplication for monitoring / sending cirip messages.
  • opening developer wiki's
  • authentification using OpenID.
